Special guests at BizDays 2007

We had lot of great speakers this year, coming from…well, pretty much around the world…Ranking them would not be an easy task, so I won’t get into that. But you are welcome to do so on this blog. Who was your favourite, who do you think had the most interesting things to say, who would you like to see again in a conference? Also, feel free to suggest any other local and international specialists you’d like to hear speak.

BizDays 2007 Overview

The sixth edition of BizDays it’s now behind us, but this blog will go on, as there are still a lot of things to say…You can still join the BizDays community by registering here to get in touch with the other participants  from this year’s edition. Or, you can just check out the blog to see what we have in store for you for next year.

Till then, I will try to point out the hottest things at BizDays this year, more or less in a chronological way…

On day 1 we had 4 very special guests: Leonard Doroftei, Gabriela Szabo, Mihai Covaliu and Octavian Belu, bringing a different perspective to our business event, a very personal one.  My personal favourite-  Doroftei- “Esentele tari se tin in pumni mici”

BizDays also hosted in the first day the launch of a very interesting study conducted by Catalyst Solutions, which ranks Romania’s most wanted employers. Very big companies are named as the “ideal” employer ” Vodafone, Orange, Coca Cola, Oracle or Microsoft, but some state companies are also mentioned. More details here

Another launch took place the second day, this time in the online. After about a year’s work, www.bizcampus.ro is now online, providing a great environment for students from across Romania to get in touch with each other and the companies they want to work for. Great companies like Raiffeisen Bank, Porsche Romania, P&G, DHL, Oracle have already joined the project. Whether you’re interested in a company or personal profile, register here

A great focus on the online this year at BizDays, all throughout the five days, but mostly in days 4 and 5. On the 22nd,  the final step of the 11 minutes competition. All 5 finalists gave 11 minutes presentations on stage, in front of an international jury made of VC’s, business angels, entrepreneurs, investment funds and in front of the BizDays audience. Video recordings of the 5 presentations will soon be available on the 11minutes blog.  The winner ? Vladimir One, with Big Bang project, an application that will help users publish different types of content  on a variety of platforms (like Blogger, YouTube, Wordpress etc). Great projects, all five of them, and, as George Haber said, Romania is the winner at this point, not just the person presenting the project.  Anyway, considering how succesful the project was with just a couple of weeks notice before the event, it will continue on the 11minutes blog. MCI Management said they have about 20 mil euros to spend on the Romanian online, so…Bring on the projects!

Can you be a champion at work?

On the first day of BizDays we have the chance to host 3 high performance sport champions and one of the best coach/trainer that have launched numerous champions in Romania.

What all this may have to do with business, you may ask… Well, it is about people that make a difference. Each one of them will explain to us that talent is not enough. To get to the top they needed passion, focus, discipline and an incredible faith in what you they are doing and in the fact that they can improve performance, day after day. Can we apply this in business? Can you be a champion at work? In your career? In your business? I hope to find some answers listening to the real Champs!

Entrepreneurs, looking forward to meeting you…

Hi everybody, it’s just a couple of days before the BizDays start, and I am very much looking forward to meeting you in Bucharest… and before that I got this chance to introduce myself - in a blog which is kind of strange as I’ve never thought I’d be a blogger myself - although I do read blogs

So to just give you a quick idea, I am a venture capitalist… I work for MCI Management which is a Central & Eastern European VC/PE investor, with the aim especially on Internet, Mobile and Software opportunities… Inside MCI I am responsible for the Czech, Slovak and Romanian markets, so my goal is also to look for the most interesting entrepreneurs and ventures in Romania… and I have money (and other support) to offer them…

I’m a Czech national, but with interest and enthusiasm regarding the whole of the Central & Eastern European region… and although we started with a significant delay, I truly believe the CEE entrepreneurs can beat the western ones… soon…

So meet me on Tuesday 20th in the morning and/or afternoon sessions, or on Thursday 22nd at the TMT.conference… or I am of course ready for one-on-one meetings…

Blogging for Business

After corporate blogging, I am trying to see how events blogging works. It is difficult to associate blogging with business, as often the reaction of the reader is “wait a minute, if I wanted to read a press release I would go elsewhere!”… Blogging, even corporate, should remain in my opinion as personal as possible, because the added value comes from the personal “filter” of the blogger.

So what’s the idea behind blogging for BizDays? What will I write about? Of course about the BizDays concept, but also about what’s new this year, the super speakers that are coming, new business ideas and opportunities, special projects that are built into this event, etc… But this is not everything. Your participation will make the conversation more interesting, and ideally we could turn this blog into the corridor buzz around BizDays.

Are you ready to join the conversation?

BizDays proudly presents…

Romania seems to be passing through a bit of a image crisis right now, with Europe wondering what is the ” added value ” that Romania is bringing by joining the EU.  Here’s a thought : what about a dozen world titles, more than 100 gold medals and 3 world records? These are a just a few of  the great things that Gabriela Szabo, Leonard Doroftei, Mihai Covaliu and Octavian Belu have done for Romania.

We are honoured to have them all as special guests at BizDays, on the 19th. We are confident that their determination, hard working spirit and ability to overcome all challenges will serve as an example to all the entreprenuers striving to suceed. Business people are always looking for inspiration; who better to inspire you than 3 world champions? Join us on the 19th for a special session : Meet the Champions- Inspiration for business

Ready, Steady, Start Up!

Over 80% of the start ups launched all over the world fail to last more than one year on the market. That’s hardly any surprise considering all the downfalls a new, and very often a small business has to overcome: small budgets, few or no managerial skills, very tough competitors and the harsh law of the “survival of the fittest” , to name just a few . Biz magazine has always been a great support for the entrepreneurs and, at the sixth edition of BizDays, we’ll provide the proper tools for all you entrepreneurs out there: a Start Up kit, valuable insights from succesful business people, inspirational succes stories and business models plus very high chances to actually get the financing needed to start a business. More details to come, but till then, check out the program and come get in touch with your entrepreneurial side at BizDays!
